LADWP Residential EV Charger Rebate
If your home is served by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, you may qualify for significant savings on a residential Level 2 EV charger installation.
LADWP currently offers eligible residential customers up to $1,000 toward the purchase and installation of a qualifying EV charger. Customers enrolled in qualifying LADWP EZ-SAVE or Lifeline programs may receive an additional $500, bringing the potential charger incentive to as much as $1,500.
Eligible installation expenses can include licensed electrical labor, circuit breakers, electrical wiring, conduit, junction boxes, disconnects, meter sockets, certain electrical panel-related work, permit costs, and qualifying EV charging equipment.
Installation costs claimed through the LADWP program must generally be performed by a licensed electrician, and the rebate cannot exceed eligible out-of-pocket costs after other incentives.
Additional $250 Dedicated EV Meter Rebate
LADWP also currently offers an additional $250 rebate for installation of a qualifying dedicated EV Time-of-Use meter.
A dedicated EV meter measures only the electricity used by the EV charger and can provide access to LADWP’s special EV charging rate.
LADWP currently advertises an EV rate discount of $0.025 per kWh on applicable base-period charges for separately metered EV charging.
For customers who charge regularly at home, a dedicated EV meter can potentially provide savings both at installation and over the life of the vehicle.
What LADWP Requires
- Level 2 / 240V
- New and unused
- Network-capable
- Certified by an approved nationally recognized testing laboratory
- Equipped with an eligible charging connector
- Listed as qualifying equipment under the program
To qualify, the charger and installation must meet program requirements. For installation-cost reimbursement, LADWP also requires documentation such as an itemized paid invoice from a licensed electrical contractor, charger information, photographs, and a finalized electrical permit when a permit is required. Planning the installation correctly from the beginning can make the rebate process much easier.
California MyFirstEV — Savings on Your First EV
California now has a separate incentive designed specifically for people buying or leasing their first zero-emission vehicle.
The MyFirstEV program launched in August 2026 and provides eligible California residents with an instant point-of-sale incentive through participating automakers.
Current incentives include:
- Up to $3,500 toward a qualifying new zero-emission vehicle
- Up to $1,750 toward a qualifying used zero-emission vehicle. The new-vehicle incentive generally applies to eligible vehicles with an MSRP of up to $50,000, while qualifying used vehicles may have a sale price of up to $25,000. The incentive is available to California residents buying or leasing a zero-emission vehicle for the first time and is applied through participating manufacturers while program funding remains available.Unlike many traditional rebates, MyFirstEV is designed as a point-of-sale discount, so eligible customers receive the savings as part of the vehicle transaction rather than waiting for a rebate check later.
Can Incentives Be Combined?
Potentially, yes.
The California MyFirstEV program applies to the vehicle itself, while programs such as the LADWP Residential EV Charger Rebate apply to the charger and electrical installation.
California also states that MyFirstEV may be combined with certain other qualifying vehicle-assistance programs when eligibility requirements are met.
That means a qualifying customer may potentially save on several different parts of going electric:
Vehicle purchase + EV charger + electrical installation + dedicated EV meter + ongoing charging costs.
Each program has its own eligibility requirements, so available incentives should always be confirmed before making purchasing or installation decisions.
Used EV Incentives Through LADWP
LADWP also currently offers a separate incentive for qualifying used electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.
LADWP advertises a $1,500 used-EV rebate for qualifying customers, with qualifying EZ-SAVE or Lifeline customers potentially receiving up to $4,000.
This can make purchasing a used EV particularly attractive for customers who also plan to install home charging.
Why Planning Before Installation Matters
- Charger model
- Purchase date
- Installation date
- Electrical permits
- Final inspection
- Contractor licensing
- Paid invoices
- Equipment photographs
- Utility account information
- Application deadlines
Many incentive programs have specific rules. For example, LADWP generally requires the charger rebate application within 12 months of the charger purchase, while certain installation-only or dedicated-meter applications have shorter deadlines. Checking eligibility before starting the project can help prevent missed rebate opportunities.
